Sacraments of Vocation & Service

Holy Orders

Through Holy Orders, the mission Christ entrusted to His apostles continues in the Church until the end of time, through bishops, priests and deacons.

The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.Matthew 9:37–38

Discernment

Is God calling you?

Every Christian should ask how God is calling them to serve Him.

For men

The calling to be a priest

Every young man should prayerfully consider whether God might be calling him to serve the Church as a priest.

  1. 1Pray about it, especially at Mass and before the Blessed Sacrament.
  2. 2Speak with the pastor, who would be glad to help you discern.
  3. 3Contact the Diocese’s Vocations Director for more information.
For men & women

Consecrated life

Priesthood is one of many ways to give your life to God. Some are called to consecrate their lives to Christ through:

  1. ✦Religious life as a brother or sister, such as the Sisters of the Poor of Jesus Christ or the Sisters of Our Lady Immaculate, who assist at St. Ann’s.
  2. ✦Consecrated virginity for women living in the world.

Common questions

How do I know?

Start with prayer, the sacraments and a good priest to talk to. God usually reveals His will step by step.

Not sure yet?

Exploring a vocation is not a commitment. Asking questions is simply part of listening to God.

Pray for vocations

Everyone can help. Please pray for our priests and for more young people to answer God’s call.
