The Traditional Latin Mass
St. Ann’s has been designated as the home for the Traditional Latin Mass in the greater Hamilton area.
Introibo ad altare Dei, ad Deum qui lætificat juventutem meam.I will go unto the altar of God, to God who giveth joy to my youth. Psalm 42

How to follow along
Don’t worry about every word
A hand missal with the Latin and English side by side helps you follow the prayers. Our guide explains each part of the Mass.
Let the silence pray
Much of the Mass is prayed quietly by the priest. Use these moments to unite your own prayer with the Sacrifice on the altar.
Follow those around you
Not sure when to stand, sit or kneel? Just do what the people near you are doing.
Holy Communion
Catholics who are prepared (in a state of grace and having fasted for one hour) kneel at the altar rail and receive on the tongue.
What to wear
Business casual is a good guide: a collared shirt for men; a modest dress, skirt or slacks for women. Some women wear a head covering (a veil or mantilla), but it is never required. Not everyone in our neighbourhood has many clothes to choose from, so take this as a guide: we each do our best to honour the Lord.
Bringing children
We want children here. The Mass is where the faith is handed on to them, and St. Ann’s has many young families, so the sound of little ones is a normal part of our Sunday. Sit wherever you like. If a child needs a moment, the vestibule at the back is close by, and you are welcome to step out and come back in.
Why we love it
Beauty has a way of reaching the heart before the mind can explain it. That is what so many people experience at the Traditional Latin Mass: the chant, the incense, the silence and the ancient prayers all point beyond themselves to God. It reminds us that the Mass is His work before it is ours, the one Sacrifice of Calvary made present on the altar. You do not need to understand every word. Come and see, and let its beauty lead you to Christ.
